Latest Successes – Sports Awards Evening

On Thursday 23rd June 2022, the school held it’s 11th Sports Award Evening at the Technique Stadium in Chesterfield after a two-year COVID hit absence. This event celebrates and recognises the breadth and depth of our sporting talent, commitment and contributions across the whole school. A variety of individual and team achievements are awarded as staff, students and parents and carers reflect on a successful year at Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School.

The atmosphere, energy and positivity was a joy to behold and it was a special night to be part of. It is remarkable just how many students participate in the sporting offer, whether this be clubs, activities or competitive fixtures and that they engage with real enjoyment and commitment.

It is one thing to have talent in an area but a totally different thing to show the level of drive and determination to be a success in that area. The level that students perform at on a regular basis is remarkable, achieved by the hours of training and hard work that this requires. Through this, success is achieved at school, local, regional and even national level. However, it is more than this, as shown by the smiles and happiness amongst the students as they receive their recognition and awards. This truly is wonderful and the students need commending on their successes.

As part of the night, ex-student Jack Shephard presented the awards and gave an inspirational talk on his sporting achievements. To have a back to back world Paralympian badminton champion who is ranked world number one presenting the awards was a real wow moment and a shining example of how with hard work and determination you can realise your dreams.

It was excellent to see the return of another major school event as we continue to transition from the pandemic and we look forward to sports day and the sponsored walk with real excitement.

A massive thank you goes to all the PE department staff who work so hard to enable all students to participate in sport at various levels.
