As part of our continued drive to support literacy and reading for pleasure at Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School, we were thrilled that Peter J. Murray came in to school to lead an afternoon event for all of our Year 7 students.
Peter J. Murray is the author of the very popular Mokee Joe series and the Bonebreaker trilogy. His debut novel Mokee Joe is Coming! was voted winner of the ‘Sheffield Children’s Book Award’ in the shorter novel category. Scabbajack, Peter’s seventh book, recently won the ‘Stockton Children’s Book Award’. Peter believes in bringing his books to life by using realistic settings and basing them on historical facts. He is passionate in his quest to promote literacy in schools, and to inspire even the least confident child to use their imagination and to achieve creative success.
Everybody enjoyed learning about Peter’s life and what inspired him to write his books. Each book has it’s own backstory which was really fascinating and hopefully sparked imagination into our students to help them with their writing.
Peter delved into detail about the characters in the books and how they develop during the series.
It shows just how inspiring the visit was as the queue the following day to purchase signed books was very long!
