Recently, DHFS students from Y7 and 8 were lucky enough to be involved in the launch of Geri Halliwell’s latest book for young adults: Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen. The students had an intimate audience with the Spice Girls celebrity, who talked about her inspiration for her new book and the importance of reading and writing for pleasure – prompted by some extremely thoughtful and incisive questions from our students.
‘Reading changed my life.’ Eulogised Halliwell. ‘At dark times, when I’ve felt alone or unhappy, books have given me escapism, wisdom.’ When asked about her move into young adult literature, Geri said that she finds writing empowering ‘you get to play god. You get to decide whether a character lives or dies.’ She encouraged the students to ‘just write; just do it! Write about anything!’
Each of the students was given a signed copy of Halliwell’s book – watch this space for a review!
